10 Best Places for a Coffee Date in Nairobi

First dates should always be light, not more than an hour, and ideally should take place during the evening hours. Arranging a coffee date is a great way to move from an online connection to a face-to-face. As I go through Nairobi on my first dates, I have experienced a number of wonderful places which I’m happy to share with you as you embark on your first face-to-face date experience with your match.

1. The River Café Karura

A Very awesome place for a first date. The cafe is nice and convenient if you happen to be in Karura for a hike. Make sure you make reservations on the weekend though, as it often fills up quickly. The food is also delicious and has friendly staff. The place has beautiful views of nature.

2. The Mug

This place is awesome as it is in the central business district but not too exposed. I would go here for coffee anytime when I’m in Nairobi. Their services are excellent not forgetting the level of ambience.
Location: Kaunda Street, Jubilee Exchange Building, opposite Lonroh House next to 20th Century Plaza.
3. Nairobi Java House ( Kimathi Street )
The atmosphere is very nice, it’s a fantastic place to hang out. I was there on a date and it did not disappoint. Plus the sandwiches have a very generous (and very well done) meat serving, it was amazing. The price list is also very reasonable. I highly recommend it for a chilled out or casual date.

4. Artcaffe Westgate

It’s a pretty chilled out joint. The Westlands view at night when you are seated out on the balcony and its drizzling is absolutely beautiful. Friday nights they have a live band playing salsa music which I found to be pretty awesome.
5. About Thyme Restaurant
The ambience is great for a romantic coffee date, especially at night. The level of service from their staff is also great. It can get a bit chilly at night because of the open city so it’s advisable you dress warmly when going there.
6. Dormans Coffee Westgate
A good place to have your chilled evening coffee with your match. The open restaurant gives it that unique feel. Their wifi is also free not forgetting their friendly staff.
