This article focuses on the accreditation process for construction workers and site supervisors in Kenya. National Construction Authority (NCA) is the body empowered by the National Construction Authority Act no 41 of 2011, to accredit and certify skilled construction workers and site supervisors. Accreditation basically ensures that individuals participating in various trades have the necessary skills to undertake or perform the trades.
It is mandatory for construction workers and site supervisors with technical training certificates, trade tests from the National Industrial Training Authority, or competency-based assessments from accredited training institutions to apply for accreditation.
Those without technical training certificates or trade tests, but with at least two years of documented experience can apply for provisional accreditation. Construction workers without technical training certificates and without two years of documented experience should apply for an apprenticeship.
Requirements For Accreditation
- Technical certificates from an accredited technical training institution.
- A NITA trade test (Grade three and above)
- Copy of National ID
- Passport size photographs.
Construction Workers And Site Supervisors Accreditation Process
1. Go to the NCA website www.nca.go.ke.
2. Go to the construction workers tab then click on accreditation.
3. Click on register, then register an account by filling in the requested information in each field.
4. Log into your account with the National ID/Passport number and the password used during the registration process.
5. Click on the ‘New Application’ tab then click on accreditation.
6. Submit the information and documentation that will be requested.
7. After submission of the online accreditation application, an invoice will be sent to your email address, the one used during registration, with the amount to be paid and the mode of payment. You will receive a text message notifying you of the sent invoice. It will be sent via the mobile number used during registration.
