In recent years Africa has experienced new birth in every avenue of the entertainment industry. The citizens of this great nation are known for their sense of adventure and rich culture. They are now branching out in virtually every entertainment venue.

Music

You cannot talk about great music entertainers of Africa without mentioning industry giants like Bob Marly and Lucky Dube. Today’s music scene is rocking with fantastic musicians who are making their marks globally. The top four artists, according to Clacified.com, are:

  • Burna boy – Grammy Award winner for his album, Twice as Tall in 2020. He won the award for Best Global Music Album.

 

  • Wizkid – Wizkid won a Grammy Award in 2020 and made history. He was the first Nigerian musician to win a Grammy award.

 

  • Diamond Platnumz – Diamond Platnumz may come in as number three of the best singers, but he has a lot of accomplishments in his portfolio. The Tanzanian Afropop and Bongo player is a hip-hop and R&B recording star. He owns the WCB Wasafi record label, Zoom Extra, Wasafi TV, and Wasafi FM. and is known as one of the country’s best dancers.

 

  • Davido – Davido is a Nigerian vocalist, songwriter, and record producer. His music is a blend of pop and African elements. Davido began his career in 2010 and went on to win more than 20 music awards through 2020. His prize wins include the highly acclaimed MTV Europe Music Award for Best African Act (2017). He has been nominated for the award again in 2021.

Gambling through technology

The international gambling market is experiencing exponential growth. According to World Financial Review, Africa is taking part in an online gambling revolution. They state that at least 30% of Africa is taking part in some part of online gambling. Much of this growth is attributed to the launch of 4G and 5G networks across Africa. Citizens are taking advantage of their ability to play the lottery at Lottoland, an industry leader. The industry is expected to reach more than $565 billion by the end of 2022.

Africa is not lacking in colorful, exotic, and unique dining establishments. We want to point out that in this field, South Africa has risen in the ranks. Being listed on The World’s Best Restaurants list is considered one of the highest honors one can reach in this industry. You will find three South African eateries on the 2021 list. They are:

Wolfgat – Paternoster, Western Cape

This fine dining establishment came in at number 50 on the list.

La Colombe – Constantia, Western Cape

La Colombe comes in at number 81 with their French / Asian menu.

Fyn – Cape Town, Western Cape

The contemporary cuisine served at this beautiful restaurant earned them number 92 on the highly acclaimed list.

Film Industry

Nigeria produces 2500 films per year, earning them the nickname Nollywood. The industry employs about 5 million people and contributes billions to the continent’s GDP annually. However, according to a recent report from UNESCO, they can produce five times that amount. There is much work to be done setting up an infrastructure for this industry in Africa. Other issues such as piracy will have to be aggressively addressed for Africa to achieve maximum potential.

It is no secret that major corporations have been watching Africa for the past decade. While Africa has shown substantial growth and promise, many investors have held back due to her poor infrastructure and political issues that significantly affect trade. However, according to some reports, Africa seems to be overcoming its problems. World commerce due to technology is a big help. Large corporations are impressed with the growth of the country during challenging times. Multinational companies who are busy planting their businesses in the continent include Nokia, Coca-Cola, Nestle’, and Unilever, to name a few. The future looks bright for the industry in Africa, and many significant corporations are getting in on the action while the price is right.

Africa has grown in leaps and bounds in the past 20-years. The growth continues today. All eyes are upon this great country as we watch her become all it is meant to be. One this is certain.
