Nairobi has the most beautiful and amazing sceneries you will ever see. When visiting or planning your next stay, there is a wide range of activities which you may engage in with your children. I would recommend the following places if you are on a short stay.
1. Wildlife and National Parks
If you are a lover of the wild, you can visit the Nairobi National Park, Nairobi Animal Orphanage, Mamba Village, Nairobi Snake Park, The Shedrick Elephant Orphanage and Nairobi Giraffe Centre. These locations are just a short drive from the capital. Its also good to note that these places charge visitors for the entrance fees and activities.
2. Relax at Uhuru Park
This can be more interesting to your children. From boat riding to face painting! Entrance to this monumental setting is absolutely FREE!
3. Go karting
If you are a lover of speed, thrill, and rallying, you may want to get your way to an indoor karting complex on Langata Road which offers adult and children alike a chance to have a feeling of karting. The charges here cater for safety gear and riding.
4. Swimming
Moi Sports Centre Kasarani or Nyayo National Stadium Swimming Complex would be a great avenue to enjoy some swimming with the kids. Swimming activities are charged but the entrance is absolutely free. However, most hotels in Nairobi have their own swimming pools.
5. Visit iconic buildings and sky scrappers in the capital.
Think of it as a tour in the city. The Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) is a sight you behold. You could choose to go to the rooftop for an aerial view of Nairobi. The charge is $ 1.50 per person. You could also visit the Kenya National Archives, GoDown Arts Centre, Murumbi Art Gallery and the Parliament buildings.
6. Eat Outs
If they like eat-outs, there a couple of malls to visit in Nairobi including Galleria, The Junction, The Hub, Thika Road Mall, Garden City, Two Rivers and Sarit Center. Most of these malls have kids section where they can play over.
7. Hike up the Ngong Hills
Highly recommended if you want to get out of Nairobi on a weekend for some fresh air with your children. Remember to hire an armed guide when going there. Security on Ngong Hills is a major concern, with some incidents of muggers attacking small groups of visitors reported over the years.
8. Nature Walk at Karura Forest
Lovely atmosphere to clear up your head with fresh air and enjoy nature at very affordable rates. You can also go biking or jogging through the nature trail.
Nairobi is an amazing city, make sure you enjoy yourself fully when around. A simple google search will provide all the addresses and directions to the places mentioned above.
