KMTC Kakamega campus was established in 1952 and is located in the bustling town of Kakamega next to the renowned Kakamega County Referral Hospital. With a rich history that spans several decades, this esteemed institution has been at the forefront of medical training and education in the Western region.
Courses Offered at KMTC Kakamega
A bit of back story about the campus. In its early years, the campus commenced its journey by offering training programs for Enrolled Nurses. Over time, the curriculum expanded, and in 1979, the training of Environmental Health Sciences was introduced. Not long after, in 1981, the faculty of Medical Laboratory Technology, now Medical Laboratory Sciences, was added.
Initially, all three programs exclusively offered certificate courses. However, in 1994, the Medical Laboratory Sciences program pioneered a diploma course, followed by the Nursing program in 2000. In September 2001, Environmental Health Sciences introduced an in-service diploma course. Recognizing the demand for further advancement, the Nursing program initiated the upgrading of Enrolled Nurses to diploma level in September 2005, adding to the already thriving academic offerings.
At present, the KMTC Kakamega Campus presents an array of programs and courses designed to nurture competent healthcare professionals which are listed as follows:
