In this article, we’ll look at courses offered at KMTC Kapenguria campus and their fee structure. KMTC Kapenguria Campus, located near West Pokot County Headquarters and adjacent to Kapenguria County Referral Hospital, was established in the early 1980s to provide healthcare personnel to the county.
The campus was officially opened by President Uhuru Kenyatta on April 16, 2015, and sits on a 12-acre piece of land donated by the hospital through the County Government. It was the first KMTC campus in Kenya to be built and equipped by a County Government alone.
Courses Offered at KMTC Kapenguria Campus
KMTC Kapenguria Campus admitted its first Kenya Enrolled Community Health Nurses students in September 2014. The school has since grown to offer various certificates, diplomas, and higher diploma courses as listed below.
- Certificate in Community Health Nursing.
- Certificate in Nutrition and Dietetics.
- Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery.
- Diploma in Enrolled Community Health Nursing.
- Higher National Diploma in Family Medicine.
- Higher National Diploma in Family Medicine
Requirements: Diploma in clinical medicine; Valid practising license; and 2-year working experience
Duration: 24 months
- Diploma in Enrolled Community Health Nursing
Requirements: Mean Grade C, C in English or Kiswahili and Biology/Biological Sciences. C- in any one of the following: Chemistry/ Physics/ Physical Science or Mathematics
Duration: 3 years
- Certificate in Community Health Nursing
Requirements: Mean Grade C-, C- in English or Kiswahili and Biology/Biological Sciences. D+ in any one of the following: – Physics/Physical Sciences, Chemistry, or Mathematics
Duration: 2 years
- Certificate in Nutrition and Dietetics
Requirements: Mean Grade D+, D+ in English or Kiswahili and Biology/ Biological Sciences, D in Chemistry/Physical Science. D in any one of the following: Home Science, Agriculture, Mathematics, Physics, General Science.
Duration: 2 years
- Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery
Requirements: Mean Grade C, C in English or Kiswahili, and C in Biology/ Biological Sciences, C- in Chemistry/Physical Sciences C- in any one of the following: Mathematics, Physics/Physical Sciences
Duration: 3 years
For clinical experience, students attend various approved health facility sites across the region including Kapenguria County Teaching and Referral Hospital, Ortum Mission Hospital, Sigor, Chepareria, Kacheliba Sub County Hospitals, and Kabichbich and Turwell Health Centers. External experience sites for students include Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for psychiatric experience and ICU, Kitale County Hospital, and Lodwar County Hospital.

Following devolution, the County Government of West Pokot has taken charge of the construction and expansion of the school. So far, the school features modern facilities including an administration block with modern offices, six classrooms, a well-equipped library, a computer lab connected to the internet, a fully equipped skills lab, and well-equipped hostels with adequate water supply, a computer and nutrition lab.
