Courses Offered At KMTC Thika Campus And Fee Structure

This article lists all courses offered at KMTC Thika campus and their fee structure. KMTC Thika Campus is located next to Thika Level 5 Hospital within Thika Sub County in Kiambu County. The campus was established in 1969 with the support of the Norwegian Government. The aim was to train community health nurses at the enrolled level who would serve in Kenya’s rural health facilities.

2017 saw the school embark on an aggressive expansion mission. That meant expanding its facilities and introducing more courses in its course list to be a multi-faculty Training Campus. Currently, the campus offers a range of programs at certificate, diploma, and higher diploma levels. The programs and courses offered are listed below.

Requirements: Mean Grade D+, D+ in English or Kiswahili and Biology/ Biological Sciences, D in Chemistry/Physical Science. D in any one of the following: Home Science, Agriculture, Mathematics, Physics, General Science.

  • Certificate in Orthopedic Plaster Technology

Requirements: Mean Grade C-, C- in English or Kiswahili and C- in Biology/ Biological Sciences D+ in any one of the following: Physics/ Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Chemistry, Woodwork, Metal Work, Technical Drawing, Home Science, Agriculture, Computer Studies

  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery

Requirements: Mean Grade C, C in English or Kiswahili, and C in Biology/ Biological Sciences, C- in Chemistry/Physical Sciences C- in any one of the following: Mathematics, Physics/Physical Sciences

  • Diploma in Community Health Nursing

Requirements: Mean Grade C, C in English or Kiswahili and Biology/Biological Sciences. C- in any one of the following: Chemistry/ Physics/ Physical Science or Mathematics

Requirements: Diploma in Nursing or in Community, Health Nursing and one-year Post Graduation experience

Requirements: Diploma in clinical medicine; Valid practising license; and 2-year working experience

Course Duration: 2 years

  • Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery

Requirements: Diploma in clinical medicine; Valid practising license; and 2-year working experience

  • Higher Diploma in Family Medicine

Requirements: Diploma in clinical medicine; Valid practicing license; and 2-year working experience

  • Upgrading Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics

Requirements: Holder of a Certificate in Community Nutrition/ Nutrition & Dietetics/Food Science & Nutrition KNEC Certificate in Nutrition & Dietetics for TVET graduate

With a student population of 840, KMTC Thika Campus provides several opportunities for clinical experience. The Thika Level 5 Referral Hospital acts as the main clinical site since it is located close to the campus. Additionally, students have the chance to gain valuable hands-on experience in rural health facilities both within and outside Kiambu County.

Facilities at KMTC Thika Campus include a fully-equipped Skills Laboratory, where students can practice their skills using mannequins and simulated patients before working with real patients in clinical settings. The administration offices are equipped with the latest technologies for teaching and learning. A computer laboratory with modern computers and internet connectivity is available for students’ use.

The campus also has a well-stocked library with the latest books, and hostels with constant water and electricity supply are provided within the compound. A dining hall offers cafeteria services with quality meals at affordable prices, operating even during weekends. Additionally, there is transportation available, including a bus for transporting students and staff for practicals and other official duties.
