Today being Moi Day, the holiday season is soon approaching in Kenya. With most children closing school at the end of this month, most families will soon be in full holiday mode. We, therefore, picked four family-friendly places that are able to accommodate all family members.
Lake Nakuru National Park
If your children have never been to this amazing park, then it should definitely be on your list of places to visit in Nakuru. The park is run by the Kenya Wildlife Service and is open on a daily basis. A visit to this park will give your kids a great introduction to the various wildlife in Nakuru and Kenya. If you are lucky enough, you can even spot some of the big five! After a nice day of game viewing, visit any of the restaurants found within the park or carry a picnic and enjoy a meal with your family in any of the designated picnic sites.
West Side Mall
West Side Mall has everything under one roof. You can start the day by taking the children around just to feast their eyes. If you want to gift them with shoes, there are up to three shoe shop in the building. Do not worry about running low on cash because there are several M-pesa shops and Universal ATMs as well. Take your family for lunch either in Java, KFC or at the recently opened Chinese restaurant. The adults can also visit the Tiki Lounge and enjoy a beer or two. Just before going home, pass through Nakumatt supermarket also in the premises and get supplies for you and your family.
Grill Park
If you are a nyama choma lover, Grill Park has the best variety in town. The best part is, you can get up to 5 different types of nyama choma including chicken and pork. The park is located on very spacious grounds that offers ample parking. You can either choose to sit outside or indoors while bonding with your family and friends. There is a huge children’s playground with all sorts of enjoyment equipment including swings and slides. The Grill Park Nakuru is so enjoyable you will not want to leave.
Stem Hotel
The Stem Hotel is one of Nakuru’s oldest and most loved Jewels. It is a privately owned hotel that hosts hundreds of people throughout the week. Here, you can have foods of different kinds that are prepared on request. You can take a walk around the premises as you wait for your order to get ready. The children can play at the kid’s corner or jump into the swimming pool. In case you are just travelling through, you can choose to book bed and breakfast here.
