How To Apply For A PSV License In Kenya

This is a guide on how to apply for a PSV license in Kenya. The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) is the body mandated to issue PSV licenses/badges in Kenya. A PSV license is a document of authorisation that is issued to operators of public service vehicles. This includes matatu drivers, conductors, taxi drivers and institutional drivers.

Requirements To Apply for a PSV License in Kenya

(i). Drivers

  • Must be 24 years and above.
  • Have a four year driving experience, in Kenya or abroad.
  • Driving license Class D endorsement.
  • A good conduct certificate from the relevant authority.
  • Be in possession of a national ID.

(ii). Matatu Conductors

  • Be 18 years and above.
  • A certificate of good conduct from the relevant authority.
  • Be in possession of a national ID.

How to Apply for a PSV License in Kenya

1. Log in to the NTSA portal https://serviceportal.ntsa.go.ke or create an account first if you don’t have one.

2. Go to the quick links section.

3. Click on driving license option and choose the type of application you want;

  • PSV driver application.
  • PSV conductor application.
  • Institution driver application.
  • Taxi driver application.

4. Fill all the necessary fields and upload the required documents. The details and documents required are:

  • Your physical address.
  • P.O Box address.
  • Link to sacco.
  • Good conduct certificate.
  • License photo.
  • Drivers license number and license collection point.

5. Click on next to proceed to the payment section.

6. Make the required payment- Kshs 1050 through your preferred means such as Mpesa or debit/credit card.

7. Click on complete once you have made the payment.

8. Confirm your payment then click on submit.

9. You can go back to the dashboard to review your application.

10. Proceed to print your application and payment receipt and take it to your license collection point to collect your license.
