This is a step by step guide on how to get a CRB clearance certificate in Kenya. Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) is a firm that is licensed by Central Bank of Kenya to collect information from financial institutions and provide consumer credit information. Loan defaulters are usually listed on CRB by financial institutions after a certain period of time.
There are only three licensed Credit Reference Bureaus in Kenya. They include Transunion, Metropol and CreditInfo. These institutions are tasked with the mandate of providing clearance certificates for those who need them. In most cases, the CRB clearance certificates are necessary documents when applying for jobs, tender application or may be required by financial institutions when applying for loans.
A CRB clearance certificate is just a confirmation of one’s current credit status. It doesn’t clear your current or historical debts. The processing fee for the CRB clearance certificate is Kshs 2,200.
