This article focuses on how to update your Kenya Power prepaid token meter. Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) is currently in the process of updating all pre-paid token meters before the global deadline that is 31st August, 2024.
The exercise is basically a meter software update process aimed at safeguarding the customer vending experience. It targets all prepaid meters where a code is used to uniquely identify each prepaid meter token that is generated at the point of purchase.
The update ensures that the units are safe by preventing replication in the system. It does not affect the electricity tariff that you are currently on,
All prepaid token meters that will not have been updated by the set deadline will stop accepting the tokens generated. The update is necessary to prevent service disruptions.
How to Update your Prepaid Token Meter
- To update your meter, you will be required to key in two codes that will be sent to you by KPLC via SMS. The codes will only be sent to the person who purchases the tokens for the meter.
- You will be required to key in the codes in sequence. The codes are 20 digit numbers that will be entered into the prepaid meters to update the meter’s software.
- Before entering the codes, make sure that you use up all old and unused electricity tokens. If you fail to do so, you will not be able to use the tokens after entering the meter update codes.
- If the update is successful, your meter will accept new electricity tokens going forward.
Note:
- The entire process of token meter update is free of charge.
- The deadline is August 31st, 2024.
- Ensure that you load all previously bought tokens to your meter before updating.
