Squeezed between the village of Fumbini, a community owned forest and the beautiful emerald-blue Kilifi lies a haven like no other, Distant Relatives Ecolodge & Backpackers.
1. Location
Distant Relatives Ecolodge & Backpackers is located two kilometres off the main highway connecting Mombasa to Watamu, Malindi and Lamu.
2. Getting There
If you are going to Distant Relatives Ecolodge & Backpackers by matatu, then jump off at Kilifi’s Tuskys Supermarket and from there take a motorbike or tuk-tuk to the ecolodge and if you are driving from Mombasa, then turn left when you see their sign about 1 km after the Kilifi bridge.
If you are going through air, the lodge can organise a taxi to pick you from Mombasa Airport (Moi International Airport). Daytime pickups are from Ksh4500 while night pick-ups are from Ksh5500.
Pick-ups from the Mombasa Terminus of SGR can be organised from Ksh5500.
3. Accommodation
You are spoilt for choice here to choose from Private bandas, private rooms, safari tent, dormitory and even camping.
4. Amenities
There is a bar and receptions which is open from 7:30 in the morning to 11:30 PM, a restaurant, a communal kitchen and a big communal lounge, a swimming pool, beach access, high-speed wifi which you pay Ksh200 per day to use and even tight security to name just but a few.
5. What You Can Do Here
There are many things one can do here at Distant Relatives Ecolodge & Backpackers including playing beach volleyball with other guests or with your squad, dhow sailing, snorkelling and scuba diving, enjoy a projected movie, go for a village tour at Fumbini Village, watch the sunset at the Giriama paradise atop a cliff and visit Takaungu village and Vuma cliffs.
6. Price
Prices vary according to the season and the type of accommodation. You can spend as little as Ksh600 per head in low season and Ksh.1300 at peak season. Dorms fluctuate between Ksh. 1000 to Ksh. 2400 depending on the season. For private rooms and shared Bandas, you can pay from Ksh.3000 per person.
