What are the average salary ranges for the Kenya Defence Forces as of 2020? Well, there is a wide range of jobs in the Military category and their pay varies greatly. For instance, we have Corporals, privates, Captains, Colonels, Lieutenant Colonels, Majors and Lieutenant Generals in the Kenya Defence Forces.
The salaries for the KDF are reviewed every four years by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission of Kenya. According to the proposed 2017 salary structure, the Chief of Defence Forces is entitled to a basic salary of Ksh 840,000 with Ksh 336,000 allowances all totalling to Ksh 1,120,000. Vice Chief of the Defence Forces gets a basic salary of Ksh 695,625 with Ksh 278,250 allowances all totalling to Ksh 927,500.
Commander of the Kenya Airforce gets a total salary of Ksh 906,014 while the Commander of Kenya Navy gets Ksh 902,432. Colonels get a monthly pay of Sh153,317, Lieutenant colonels KSh 130,735, Majors KSh 102,106 and Captains Sh 73,182. A Corporal receives KSh 32,250, Lance Corporals get KSh 26,509 and Privates KSh 19,941.
Allowances
A new recruit gets a KSh7,172 allowance, a cadet gets KSh11,852 allowance while an Officer Cadet who has served three years earns Sh24,520.
