Kenya School of Flying Courses And Fee Structure

This article will look at Kenya School of Flying courses and their fee structure. Established in 1992, Kenya School of Flying ( KSOF) is one of the best aviation schools in Kenya. Its main campus is located at Wilson Airport, with other flight bases at Malindi, Orly Air-park (Isinya) and Ukunda Airstrip.

Kenya School of Flying is accredited by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCCA) to offer courses such as Private Pilot License (PPL), Commercial Pilot’s License (CPL), Initial Multi-engine/Instrument Rating, and Flight Instructor Rating (FIR).

Education Requirements 

The civil aviation minimum requirement is a C+ in English, Mathematics, Physics and Geography.

Health Requirements 

A physical and mental health examination is done by a KCAA-approved medical practitioner before joining KSOF. In addition, they conduct drug tests.

Aptitude Test

KSOF offers assessment sessions to evaluate aspiring pilots. The cost for these sessions is Ksh. 100,000. It includes free accommodation for a week at Orley Airpark.

1. Private Pilot License (PPL)

This course takes six months to complete. It includes  50 flying hours with revision, a general flight test, ground school instruction, and a Morse code tutorial.

2. Commercial Pilot’s License

The commercial pilot’s license course takes 8-12 months and involves 150 flying hours and CPL ground school.

3. Initial Multi-engine/Instrument Rating

This course enables the Pilot in Command to fly multi-engine aircraft under Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC). The course duration is six weeks. KCAA regulation 67 Part II requires 45 hours of initial instrument hours broken into:

  • 20 hours on an approved simulator
  • 20 hours on Twin Seneca PA34

4. Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering at Kenya School of Flying

Minimum Entry Qualifications

1. Academic Requirements: A mean grade of C plain, in:
i) Mathematics,
ii) Physics or Physical Science, and,
iii) English.

  • Duration: 3 years, full-time program.
  • Curriculum Focus:
    • Aerodynamics: Master the principles of flight and aircraft design.
    • Airframe Structures: Gain insight into the physical framework of aircraft.
    • Piston Engines: Delve into engine systems and maintenance techniques.
    • Practical Training: Hands-on experience in state-of-the-art workshops.

 

 Additional Requirements:
a) Medical Fitness: A Class I Medical Certificate from a KCAA-approved medical examiner.
B) Aptitude Test Entrance Exam (ATEE): Both written and practical exams that applicants
must successfully pass.
c) Medical Insurance: A valid medical insurance cover is mandatory

5. Airline Transport Pilot License

The Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) course is designed to broaden the knowledge of pilots holding a commercial pilot license and prepare them for the complexities of the airline environment.

Requirements for Issue of an ATPL

  1. Be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  2. Have a valid Class 1 Medical Certificate.
  3. Hold a valid and current Commercial Pilot License and an Instrument Rating.
  4. Pass a type rating exam if not rated on the aircraft category and class rating sought.
  5. Meet the required hours of this sub-part before applying for the practical test.
  6. Pass the required practical test for the specific aircraft type to be endorsed on the license.

Holiday Programme  for Aspiring Young Pilots
