The Kenya School of Law Fee Structure 2025

This article covers the Kenya School of Law (KSL) fee structure for 2025. The Kenya School of Law was established under the Kenya School of Law Act No. 26 of 2012 to provide professional legal training as an agent of the government. Its main campus is located along Karen – Langata South Road in Nairobi. KSL is the only bar school in Kenya.

The Kenya School of Law offers the Advo­cates Training Programme (ATP) and the Paralegal Training Programme (PTP).

1. Advocates Training Program

Period of study: 18 months; 12 months in-house and 6 months pupilage.

Entry Requirements

1. Applicants admitted into the LL.B AFTER 8TH DECEMBER, 2014 must satisfy the following requirements:-

Graduates of Kenyan Universities:

  •  Attained a minimum of grade B (plain) in English Language or Kiswahili and a mean grade of C (plus) in the Kenya
    Certificate of Secondary Examination KCSE) or its equivalent; or
  • Attained a minimum of two (2) principals and one (1) subsidiary totalling an aggregate of ten (10) points in the Kenya
    Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) or its equivalent; and
  • Have passed in the mandatory 16 core subjects as stipulated in the Second Schedule of the Legal Education Act, 2012;
    and
  • Hold or are eligible for conferment of an LL.B degree from a university recognized in Kenya.

NB: Applicants holding secondary school qualifications other than those offered by the Kenya National
Examinations Council (KNEC) must seek an equation from the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA).

Graduates of Foreign Universities

  • Attained a minimum of grade B (plain) in English Language or Kiswahili and a mean grade of C (plus) in the
    Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination KCSE) or its equivalent; or
  • Attained a minimum of two (2) principals and one (1) subsidiary totalling an aggregate of ten (10) points in
    the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) or its equivalent; and
  • Have passed the mandatory 16 core subjects as stipulated in the Second Schedule to the Legal Education
    Act, 2012; and
  • Hold or are eligible for conferment of a recognized LL.B degree from a foreign university; and
  •  Obtain clearance from the Council of Legal Education (CLE)
  • Must sit and pass the Pre-Bar Examination as provided under the Second Schedule to the Kenya School of
    Law Act, part 1 (b) (iii).

2. Applicants admitted into the LL.B BEFORE 8TH DECEMBER, 2014 must satisfy the following requirements:-

  •  Having passed the relevant examination of any recognized university in Kenya, he holds or has become eligible
    for the conferment of the Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B) of that university
  • Having passed the relevant examinations of a university, university college or other institutions prescribed by the
    Council of Legal Education, he holds or has become eligible for the conferment of the Bachelor of Laws Degree
    (LL.B) in the grant of that university, university college or other institution, and prior to enrolling at that university,
    university college or other institution –
    (i) attained minimum entry requirements for admission to a university in Kenya; and
    ii) obtained minimum grade B (plain) in English Language and a mean grade of C (plus) in the Kenya
    Certificate of Secondary Examination or its equivalent;
  •  Holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B) from a recognized university and attained a minimum grade of C (plus)
    in English and a minimum aggregate grade of C (plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination, holds
    a higher qualification e.g. “A” levels, “IB”, relevant “Diploma”, other “undergraduate degree” or has attained a
    higher degree in Law after the undergraduate studies in the Bachelor of Laws programme; or
  •  A Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B) from a recognized university and attained a minimum grade of C (minus) in
    English and a minimum of an aggregate grade of C (minus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination
    sits and passes the Pre-Bar Examination set by the Kenya School of Law as a pre-condition for admission.

The Kenya School of Law Advocates Training Program Fee Structure

1. Tuition Fees per course unit (9 units) 15,000*

3. Pupillage Supervision fees per annum 5,000

NB: Bar Examinations fees are paid separately – details are communicated to candidates by the Council of Legal Education (CLE).

2. Paralegal Studies

The 2-year Paralegal program is conducted at the Kenya School of Law town campus which is situated at Development House, 5th Floor, Moi Avenue Nairobi.
Paralegals provide legal support at the practising Bar, the corporate world and government institutions. Please note that paralegals are not lawyers.
Minimum entry requirements:
To be eligible for admission into the Diploma in Law (Paralegal Studies) Programme, the Kenya School of Law Act,
2012 requires applicants to have:
1. A mean grade of C (PLAIN) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent, and
a minimum grade of C (PLUS) in English; or
2. A minimum of Division III in KCE/EACE or its equivalent, with at least a credit in English Language;
3. At least one principal pass at the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE), or its equivalent; or
4. A distinction or credit pass in the Certificate in Law course conducted at the Kenya School of Law between
the years 2000 and 2003 or any other Certificate or Diploma in a relevant field from an institution recognized
by the Council of Legal Education.
Duration and Pattern of the programme1.
1. This is a weekday programme with an option for either day or evening classes.
2. The programme shall last for a minimum period of two (2) academic years comprising three (3) terms in
each year.
3. Students shall register for a maximum of four (4) course units per term.
4. To qualify for the award of the Diploma in Law (Paralegal Studies) candidates must complete the course of
study in not less than two (2) academic years and not more than three (3) academic years.

a) Year 1 Fees Structure 

Term 1

  • Application fee: Ksh 2,000 payable once
  • Tuition fees per subject: Ksh 7,500 – 4 units per term. (Total Ksh 30,000)
  • Library fee: Ksh 5,000 per year
  • Examination per unit Course: Ksh 3,000 – 4 units per term. ( Total Ksh 12,000)

Total Term 1 Fee: Ksh 49,000

Term 2 

  • Tuition fees per subject: Ksh 7,500 – 4 units per term. (Total Ksh 30,000)
  • Examination per unit Course: Ksh 3,000 – 4 units per term. (Total Ksh 12,000)

Total Term 2 Fees: Ksh 42,000

Term 3

  • Tuition fees per subject: Ksh 7,500 – 4 units per term. (Total Ksh 30,000)
  • Examination per unit Course: Ksh 3,000 – 4 units per term. (Total Ksh 12,000)

Total Term 3 Fees: Ksh 42,000

YEAR 1 TOTAL FEES: Ksh 133,000

b) YEAR 2  FEES STRUCTURE

Term 1

  • Tuition fees per subject: Ksh 7,500 – 4 units per term. (Total Ksh 30,000)
  • Examination per unit Course: Ksh 3,000 – 4 units per term. ( Total Ksh 12,000)

Total Term 1 Fee: Ksh 42,000

Term 2

  • Tuition fees per subject: Ksh 7,500 – 4 units per term. (Total Ksh 30,000)
  • Examination per unit Course: Ksh 3,000 – 4 units per term. ( Total Ksh 12,000)

Total Term 2 Fees: Ksh 42,000

Term 3

  • Tuition fees per subject: Ksh 7,500 – 4 units per term. (Total Ksh 30,000)

YEAR 2 TOTAL FEES: Ksh 126,000


The grand total fee payable for two years at KSL for a diploma in paralegal studies is Ksh 259,000.
