In this article, we will look at Kenyatta National Hospital’s private wing maternity charges. Kenyatta National Hospital popularly known as KNH, is the largest referral hospital in East & Central Africa. It is located along Hospital Road in Upper Hill Nairobi.
Kenyatta National Hospital has a bed capacity of 1,800, over 6,000 staff members, 50 wards, 22 out-patient clinics, 24 theatres (16 specialized) and an accident & emergency department.
The KNH Prime Care Centre (KPCC), formally known as Private Wing, caters to patients seeking private health care services at competitive rates in line with the government policy on cost sharing. The KNH Private Wing has a capacity of 224 beds, an outpatient facility with specialist clinics, vaccination, diagnostic laboratories, ultrasound services and a daycare centre.

a) Normal Delivery
Cost: Ksh 55,000
It covers the following:
- 3 days general bed ward service inclusive of specialist’s charges.
- Normal ward procedures and consumables i.e sanitary pads, basin, and a towel.
- Labour ward charges.
- One paediatrician visit.
- Initial child immunization as per KEPI schedule (BCG & Polio)
- Pain medication in the ward and at discharge.
b) Caesarian Delivery
Cost: Ksh 160,000
It covers the following:
- Laboratory tests such as grouping, cross match hemogram urea, electrolytes and creatinine.
- 4 days general ward service inclusive of obstetrician charges.
- Normal ward procedures and consumables i.e. sanitary pads, a basin, and a towel.
- Operating theatre service, medication, and anaesthetic services.
- One ward visit by a paediatrician including receiving of the baby in the operating theatre.
- Initial child immunization as per KEPI schedule (BCG & Polio)
- Pain medication in the ward
