1. Chyulu Hills National Park

The park is popularly known as Green Hills of Africa. Its estimated size is 741 square kilometers. It is a scenic park that is dotted by verdant rolling hills of endless green, magnificent caves, wildlife such as elephants, bushbucks, buffalos, elands, leopards, bush pigs, giraffes, giant forest hogs and over 100 species of birds. It offers amazing opportunities for camping, game viewing, bird watching adventures, mountain climbing, and horse riding.

2. Sikh Temple Makindu

It is located along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway, approximately 170 kilometers from Nairobi. It was built in 1926 by Sikhs who were working on the construction of the Kenya-Uganda railway. It is a holy shrine that also features a dining facility that provides free langar (food) to visitors.

3. Peterson Camp Ruins

It is located in Mtito Andei, off the Nairobi-Mombasa highway. It is a historical site that used to be former president Jomo Kenyatta’s resting place whenever he visited the lower parts of the former eastern province.

4. Kenya’s first AIC Missionary Church

Makueni County prides in hosting the first AIC Missionary church in Kenya. The church was constructed in 1895 by Peter Cameron Scott, a Scottish missionary. The church is located in Kalamba village and is believed to have pioneered the emergence of Christianity in Kenya.

5. Mbui Nzau Hills

The spectacular hills are located about 5 kilometers from the Kibwezi junction, along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway. It is a sacred place where the Akamba used to offer their sacrifices. Locals claim that a white goat used to appear on top of the hills very early in the morning, just before the arrival of missionaries. It is one of the best hiking and sightseeing spots in Makueni County.

The 40 kilometers long valley is located along the Machakos-Makueni-Makindu road. It features panoramic viewpoints where you can have a glimpse of the beautiful sceneries and landscape that surround Makueni County.
