This is a list of top 10 best places to visit in Nyandarua County. It covers an area of 3,107.7 square kilometres, with an estimated population of 596, 268 people. Nyandarua County headquarters are located in Ol Kalou Town. The County is headed by Governor Francis Kimemia.

In no particular order, here is a list of 10 best places to visit in Nyandarua County.

1. Lake Ol Bolossat

It is the only natural lake in the central region of Kenya. It is a small freshwater lake that is approximately 43.3 square kilometres. The lake is known for its abundant birdlife and hippos. You can visit the lake for bird watching and hippo viewing adventures.

2. Mount Kipipiri

It is an isolated volcano located on the northwestern side of the Aberdares. It stands at an elevation of 3,349m. It is one of the best hiking and camping destinations in Nyandarua County. Wildlife such as elephants, buffalos, colobus and Sykes monkeys can be found within the area.

3. Kinangop Plateau

It lies between the Great Rift valley to the west and the Aberdare Range to the east.  It is a beautiful plateau that is relatively flat and slopes gradually upwards towards the foothills of the Aberdares. Several rivers cut into the plateau which has an edge of about 2,400 meters in elevation.

4. Aberdare Range

It is a 160km long mountain range with an average elevation of 3,500 meters. It contains a rich diversity of vegetation and forests. Western edges of the mountain range are inhabited by wildlife such as elephants, buffalos, colobus and Sykes monkeys. It is a nice place to visit for hiking and camping adventures.

5. Rurimueria Hill

The hill can be accessed through the Ndunyu Njeru gate in Kinangop. It is part of the Aberdares National Park. The hill features tangled forests, bamboo thickets and abundant birdlife. It is a perfect place for hikers, particularly those who love hard hikes.

6. Elephant Hill

It is located on the southern end of the Aberdare Range. It is a favourable location for day hikes, guided walks and bird watching adventures. It is also a perfect hiking destination for hardy hikers.

7. Mau Mau Caves 

You can also explore the numerous mau-mau caves located in Aberdares forest. The caves were used as hideouts by freedom fighters during the mau-mau uprising.  Other attractions such as scenic waterfalls are also located around the caves.

8. Ndaragwa Nature Trail

It is located along the Nyeri-Nyahururu Highway, about 230 kilometres from Nairobi. It is situated in Ndaragwa forest station that is managed by the Kenya Forest Service. The trail offers a quiet and amazing walk with panoramic views of lush forest and Ndaragwa town.

9. Karuru Falls

The magnificent waterfall is located within the Aberdares National Park. It is the longest and highest waterfall in Kenya. The breathtaking waterfall is surrounded by beautiful indigenous trees and vegetation which attracts different species of birds. It is actually one of the most unique places to visit in Nyandarua County.

10. Ndaragwa Waterfall

It is located off the Nyeri-Nyahururu Highway, within the Ndaragwa forest station. It can be viewed from the footbridge at the bottom of the Ndaragwa nature trail which is also located within the forest station.
