In this article, we’ll dwell on all courses offered at KMTC Chuka Campus. Kenya Medical Training College KMTC Chuka Campus was established in collaboration with the local community, Chuka University, the County Government of Tharaka Nithi, and the KMTC Board of Directors. The campus was opened in 2015 and is currently located within Chuka University in Tharaka Nithi County.
List Of Courses Offered At KMTC Chuka Campus
Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Chuka Campus offers a total of 3 courses; 2 diploma courses and 1 certificate course. The following is a list of current programs available at the campus:
- Certificate in Orthopaedic Technology
Requirements: Mean Grade C-, C- in English or Kiswahili and C- in Biology/ Biological Sciences D+ in any one of the following: Physics/ Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Chemistry, Woodwork, Metal Work, Technical Drawing, Home Science, Agriculture, Computer Studies
Duration: 2 years
- Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery
Requirements: Mean Grade C, C in English or Kiswahili, and C in Biology/ Biological Sciences, C- in Chemistry/Physical Sciences C- in any one of the following: Mathematics, Physics/Physical Sciences
Duration: 3 years
- Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN)
Requirements: Mean Grade C, C in English or Kiswahili and Biology/Biological Sciences. C- in any one of the following: Chemistry/Physics/ Physical Science or Mathematics
Duration: 3 years
In addition to the above programs, KMTC Chuka Campus is set to offer the following courses:
- Short courses in HIV Testing Services, Mentorship, Monitoring, and Evaluation.
- Upgrading of certificate to Diploma in Orthopaedic Trauma Medicine.
- Upgrading of Enrolled Community Nursing to KRCHN.
Clinical Experience Sites
KMTC Chuka Campus students gain clinical experience at various hospitals with the main clinical experience site being Chuka County Referral Hospital. Other hospitals are Kiirua Mission Hospital, Embu County Referral Hospital, and Kyeni Mission Hospital.
The Campus has various clubs and societies in place for the welfare of students. They are;
- Young Christian Society
- Christian Union
- Muslim Group
- Seventh Day Adventist
Additionally, students have the opportunity to participate in a range of sporting activities, including rugby, football, netball, and basketball. These organizations offer students the chance to connect with like-minded individuals and participate in events that promote their spiritual and social well-being.
