This article dwells on courses offered at KMTC Garissa Campus. Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Garissa Campus was established in 1980 in Garissa County. The campus comprises two sections, the Upper Campus next to Garissa County Teaching and Referral Hospital and the Lower Campus near GK prison, mainly for student housing.

List Of Courses Offered At KMTC Garissa Campus

Garissa campus offers 4 courses; 2 diplomas and 1 certificate program. Below is the list

  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery

Requirements: Mean Grade C, C in English or Kiswahili, and C in Biology/ Biological Sciences,  C- in Chemistry/Physical Sciences C- in any one of the following: Mathematics, Physics/Physical Sciences

Duration: 3 years

  • Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN)

Requirements: Mean Grade C, C in English or Kiswahili and Biology/Biological Sciences. C- in any one of the following: Chemistry or Physics/ Physical Science or Mathematics

Duration: 3 years

  • Certificate in Kenya Enrolled Community Health Nursing (KECHN)

Requirements: Mean Grade C-, C- in English or Kiswahili and Biology/Biological Sciences. D+ in any one of the following: – Physics/Physical Sciences, Chemistry or Mathematics

Duration: 2 years

  • Diploma in Community Health Nursing (KECHN) (Upgrading from Certificate to Diploma, through distance learning)

Requirements: Certificate in Enrolled Nurse and Certificate in Enrolled Midwifery. Registration by the Nursing Council of Kenya. 2 Years post-graduation experience

Duration: 2 years

With the current population of 710, students at the campus have several clinical experience sites within and outside the county namely Garissa County Referral Hospital, Githongo Level 4 Hospital, Iftin Sub-County Hospital, Kangeto Health Centre, Kanyakine Sub-District Hospital, Kirua Mission Hospital, Madina Health Centre, Madogo Health Centre, Mbeu Health Centre, Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital, Mikumbune Sub- District Hospital, Muthuro Health Centre, and Runi Health Centre.

Garissa Campus is a well-equipped learning institution that offers various facilities to support the academic needs of its students. Some of these facilities available are
