List Of Courses Offered At The Kenya DCI Academy

The DCI Academy is one of the sections under the Directorate of Criminal Investigations. The CID training school was established in 1957 to enhance the Kenya police capacity and efficiency in criminal investigations. It initially housed both CID training and the then special branch training before they relocated to the current National Intelligence Academy in Ruaraka. The DCI Academy is located in South C, Nairobi, next to the police pavillion.

 It is the institution mandated with the task of training in matters of investigations in the National Police Service, with a general overview of being the regional premier law enforcement learning and research centre, and an advocate for law enforcement best practices. The institution features a state of the art auditorium, two forensic classrooms and a computer laboratory which is to be upgraded to an e-learning centre. It also features the DCI library which offers a variety of audio-visual materials, legal publications, government documents, periodicals and online resources. The Academy offers courses for officers under the DCI, government parastatals and ministries.

The DCI Academy is headed by a commandant whose overall responsibilities include;

  • Development of relevant criminal investigations courses for the academy and other police institutions
  • Efficient management and administration of the DCI school
  • Training of police and CID officers on criminal investigations
  • Provision of relevant investigation training courses to other government organisations and parastatals
  • Financial management practices to ensure financial accountability
  • Provision of liaison services for the DCI and other training institutions
