This is a list of all courses offered at the Kenya Utalii College and their respective qualifications as of 2021. The Kenya Utalii College main campus is located in Ruaraka along the Thika Super Highway. It was established back in 1973 and currently ranks as the best institution in Kenya offering hospitality and tourism-related courses.
The Kenya Utalii College offers diploma courses, certificate courses, short courses, industrial training, and degree courses in collaboration with the University of Nairobi.
Kenya Utalii College Diploma Courses
1.Hotel Management
This is a 3-year course which aims at equipping students with the necessary knowledge and skills of hospitality facilities management.
Entry Requirements
KCSE aggregate C, English C+ and Mathematics/Business Studies C- and any other equivalent qualifications or Kenya Utalii College graduates of 1 ½ or 2-year certificate (Hotel Related) courses may apply provided they passed with Distinction or a Credit.
Hotel Management Career Opportunities
Graduates may work in hotels as supervisors or departmental managers and rise to general management positions. All other catering and hospitality institutions which provide food and beverage and or accommodation can absorb the graduates to manage their facilities. Examples are hospitals, Schools with catering facilities, apartments etc.
2.Travel and Tourism Management
This is a 3- year course which trains those who intend to work in the travel and tourism industry. This course includes a 6 months industrial attachment. Students taking this course are also prepared for the IATA Diploma Foundation, Consultant and Management level examinations.

KCSE aggregate C, English C+ and Mathematics/Geography C- and any other equivalent qualifications Kenya Utalii College graduates of 1 ½ or 2-year certificate (Tourism Related) courses may apply provided they passed with Distinction or Credit.
Career Opportunities
Upon completion of this course, the students can work in Airlines, Travel Agencies, Tour Companies, Car-hire companies and any other Travel and Tourism related organizations.
Kenya Utalii College Certificate Courses
1.Travel Operations
This is a 1 ½ year certificate programme which is designed to train travel and tour consultants with operational skills to work in the tourism industry. The course includes a 3 months industrial attachment. Students taking this course are prepared for the IATA Diploma Foundation Level examinations.

KCSE Aggregate C- with an English C- and Mathematics/Geography D+ or any other equivalent qualification or Kenya Utalii College graduates of 6 months Travel Agency Techniques (TAT) course may apply provided they passed with Distinction or Credit.
Career Opportunities

2.Tour Guiding and Administration
This is another 1 ½ year certificate programme which is designed to train travel and tour consultants with operational skills to work in the tourism industry. After completion of the course, the students can work in Tour Companies, Car- hire companies, lodges, attraction sites any other Tourism related organization.
3. Food Production
This course trains and develops food production personnel for the Hospitality industry. The course offers intensive practical and theoretical skills and competencies alongside a hands-on approach to the daily operations of a professional Kitchen. It takes 1½ years for the full-time programme and 2½ years for the Apprenticeship programme.

KCSE Aggregate C- with, English C- and Mathematics/Home Science D+ or any other equivalent qualification or Kenya Utalii College graduates of short course: Kitchen Operations Techniques/Cake Making & Decorations/Pastry & Bakery may apply provided they passed with Distinction or Credit.
Career Opportunities
Graduates enter the industry with the skills and competencies required to succeed in various roles in the Food and Hospitality industry. Possible Job opportunities range from Hotel/Restaurant, Airlines, hospitals and learning institutions, corporate chef Cake and Bakery outlet, Events Catering, Food chain Markets and Food Media.
4.Housekeeping and Laundry
This course is designed to equip the students with the key fundamentals of managing Housekeeping and Laundry operations in the hospitality industry.
Entry Requirements
KCSE Aggregate C-, English C- or any other equivalent qualification. 3rd Division at “O” Level, or its equivalent with a credit in English Language, and a pass in Mathematics.
Career Opportunities
There are a wide range of career opportunities available for the graduates of this course, ranging from entry level supervision in hotels, learning institutions, restaurants, hospitals, airlines, laundry and dry cleaning plants, laundry shops, entertainment and leisure properties, members clubs, cleaning companies, cruise ships, etc.
5.Food and Beverage Sales and Services
This is a 1½ course which covers all aspects of Food and beverage operations and Food and beverage supervisory skills. The course entails intensive practical training at the demonstration restaurant, application Utalii hotel, and three months in training in various Kenyan Hotels.
Entry Requirements
Kenya Certificate of Education C-, English C- or any other equivalent qualification. 3rd Division at “O” Level, or its equivalent with a credit in English Language, and a pass in Mathematics.
Career Opportunities
Graduates for this course have opportunities for employment as waiters, captains in hotels, restaurants, airlines, shipping lines and other catering establishments. Prospects for promotion exists for capable persons to become supervisors.
6. Front Office
The 1 ½ year certificate programme prepares students to effectively work in a hotel as Receptionist, Guest Relations Officers, Reservation officers, cashiers and Front Office Accounts Auditors.

KCSE Aggregate C- with, English C- and Mathematics/Business Studies D+ or any other equivalent qualification or Kenya Utalii College graduates of short course: Reception Techniques may apply provided they passed with Distinction or Credit OR 2nd Division at Credit.
Career Opportunity
After Graduating, students are expected to work in Hotel Front Office as Receptionist, Cashiers, Guest Relations officers, Telephone operators and Front office accounts Auditors. In some cases, the graduates find jobs in other hospitality service industries such as the Airlines, Banks and Hospitals.
