The forthcoming August General Election is seen as one of the most expensive elections that Kenya will ever witness.
This follows the huge campaign budgets that political parties have put in place to help them campaign competitively with the rest.
According to sources, the two major coalitions – Jubilee and CORD – have set aside billions of shillings for the 2017 campaigns and are still fundraising for more.
According to the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, over 59 helicopters have been acquired by politicians for 2017 so far and many more are still on the way.
Here are some politicians and the helicopters they have acquired for 2017
1. Ephraim Maina- 3
The former Mathira MP has three helicopters with one yet to be registered. He was also an aspirant for the Nyeri senatorial seat in 2013.
2. Uhuru Kenyatta- 2
The Kenyatta family has two helicopters in the B3e and B3+ configuration. These probably go way back to his father Jomo Kenyatta.
3. Peter Kenneth- 2
The Nairobi governor gubernatorial aspirant owns a helicopter and is soon acquiring a Cessna Grand Caravan which costs Sh175 million. That makes them two.
4. Musalia Mudavadi- 2
ANC party leader has a Eurocopter B4 that costs Sh210 million. The euro copter can carry seven passengers for 610 kilometers. He is about to buy a second one. These two could help him navigate through the country during his campaigns countrywide.
5. Raila Odinga- 1
The former Prime minister owns the powerful Bell 407 that he acquired last year. It is a high-performance helicopter that owns a spacious cabin. It can also detect terror attacks 12000 miles away before landing. It is rumored that he is about to acquire another one.
6. William Ruto- 1
The deputy president has an Aerospatiale 350B3 Ecureuil Eurocopter that he owns jointly with KASS CEO Joseph Chepkwony.
7. Joseph Chepkwony- 1
The Kass CEO Joshua Chepkwony is reportedly buying a new chopper in addition to the one he already co-owns with Deputy President William Ruto.
8. Kalonzo Musyoka- 1
Kalonzo’s euro copter was involved in a crash in Tanzania after it was hired for campaigns by Chama Cha Mapinduzi. The insurance company repaid him though. It isn’t yet confirmed if he will be acquiring another one.
9. Nicholas Biwot- 1
10. Gideon Moi- 1
11. Kipchumba Murkomen-1
The senator is finalizing details to buy one.

13. Ndegwa Muhoro- 1
14. Julius Karangi- 1
