Oil prices are on the rise each and every time and that is the motivating factor for many oil and gas exploration companies in Kenya. Oil prices have recorded the strongest start to a calendar year since 2014 when oil prices took a sharp fall.
Kenya has plans to construct a 1445 kilometre long oil pipeline from Hoima all the way to Tanga in Tanzania and is expected to greatly benefit the three countries involved. There are 19 licensed oil and gas exploration firms in Kenya across all the 35 blocks in the country. Kenya in 2016 put a freeze on the issuance of new licenses to new exploration companies citing low levels of investments in the upstream sector hence the 19 which had already been licensed remained.
The ministry has not resumed issuance of licenses to new companies and this is the list of companies licensed to explore oil and gas in Kenya.
