Kenya being a metropolitan, shares in diverse culture and practices. All too often when they all come together to showcase their heritage, people tend to borrow and learn a lot from each other. The festivals have no particular theme, making them range from music, fashion, games, art, to food, you name it all. Here are some of the popular festivals in Kenya’s2018 calendar.
Koroga Festival
Love dancing to great tunes? Koroga festival should be marked on your calendar. It’s a bimonthly music extravaganza hosted by Capital FM. This event has attracted performance from celebrated artists like Papa Wemba, Yvonne Chakachaka, Koffi Olomide. For only 2000 bob, one Sunday afternoon when you idling in the house. This is an ideal event. There are maximum security, food, and drinks, and you will borrow an idea or two on fashion.This year the event was held at Carnivore Grounds, on Sunday 18th March.
Blankets and Wine
One popular event among the Nairobians is Blankets and Wine. It’s held every first Sunday of the month to promote local artist. Last Month the event was held at Ngong Racecourse Waterfront on Second February. All you have to bring is a bottle of wine, picnic baskets, and a blanket. For a two day two night you get to enjoy top performances, music, literature, fashion you name it. Ideally, this is a creative platform to expose talent.
StoryMoja Festival
The biggest book party happens at StoryMoja festival. Connecting readers and lovers of literature, putting together books storytelling, family, and friends. Participants get to share ideas, writing, and culture through books discussions. There is so much for everyone; skits poetry, music, demonstrations, workshops, open mic, debates, exhibitions, live performance, art, and competition. Last year the event was held at Nairobi National Museum, between October and September.We look forward to it this year.
Nairobi Restaurant Week
You want to enjoy meals at affordable prices in top restaurants in the city under the sun, Nairobi Restaurant Week offers you that opportunity. It runs from January 25th to 4th February. This is one of the largest culinary feasts sponsored by Safaricom. Participating restaurants offer certain meals at fixed prices organized by Eatout. Over 75 restaurants participate. Customers are offered desserts at select participating restaurants.
Cake Festival
Get to meet, network and learn about the world of the bakery at cake festival. It’s an annual event where the public enjoys cakes and desserts available in the market. Lots of top bakers are always in attendance to share their expertise with the eager crowds ready to taste their yummy samples in different flavors, from vanilla chocolate, pineapple to red velvet. In 2017, they held the festival at Kenya Worldlife Service Headquaters on 10th June. The much cake you eat, the more students are able to get school fees to complete their secondary educations.
Safaricom International Jazz Festival
2018 marks its fifth year of music diversity which was celebrated on 25th February at Kasarani Training grounds. Each year thousands are attracted to the city under the sun to enjoy the great live jazz performance from world renown and locally admired musicians. The growing number of music enthusiasts has created a positive social impact through the funds raised from this mega festival. You surely should get to enjoy the fantastic mix of culture and performance from great music.
Safari Sevens
Is a tournament run by Kenya Rugby Union, that has attracted followers of rugby across the globe? Ideally, the event is meant to increase competence, skills, and stamina among the participants giving them a competitive advantage. The tournaments are open to universities, school teams, professional teams too. Attendees get to enjoy the game plus music performances to stir them up. This year it will be held in Kasarani Stadium between 3rd and 4th October.
Hakuna Matata Festival
This end of Year Party like the festival is one you should not miss. Held at Nyali International Beach Hotel the theme is always upholding peace, love, and unity among Kenyans. You get to enjoy top-notch performance from the best celebrities. Get to enjoy presentations from best MCs and DJs in the country as you get to the network have fun and end the year with so much energy ready to hope into a new one.
Sondeka Festival
A broad-spectrum platform for creative minds to network, share ideas, collaborate, learn? Sondeka Festival is one of the events granting you the pleasure. Ideally, it’s a nonstop celebration of the movie screening, dance, fitness, fashion you name it all. This three days event is mind-blowing and an experience worth looking forward to. It will be held at Creatives Garage on 31st March this year.
Groove Party
This festival attracts of artists across East Africa. It is a Kenyan annual Gospel award with different categories, including gospel performers, DJs, radio and TV shows, and producers, sponsored by Safaricom and MoSound Events. Tens of thousands flock this event held at KICC on 1st June annually to show massive support for their favorite artist.
