This is a list of people who are mostly killed by police in Kenya. A normal assumption by many is that those who are felled by police bullets are criminals and lawbreakers generally, but that’s not the case. We have seen cases where stray bullets have hit the wrong target or where police have intentionally killed innocent people like colleagues or people who they have personal differences with.
According to a recent research compiled by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority, police officers are top of the table being top perpetrators of firearms-related deaths in Kenya and closely followed by robbers, self-shooting, spouses, licenced firearm holders and even friends. Two-thirds of all fatal shootings by both the police and the general public usually occur at night and 9 in 10 victims are usually below 35 years of age with 20% of those killed being totally unarmed.
Here is the list in no particular order.
