Fashion designing is long past infancy in Kenya. Our own fashion designers have exuded exemplary outfits in many major international fashion events, while others have dressed the who’s who in the country and in the international arena. They have shown that they can comfortably compete with the heavyweights in the fashion industry, no lie. If you have seen any of a Kenyan Fashion designer showcasing his/her work, then you can agree with me that the fashion industry is growing up fast.
One problem though, we need more men in the fashion industry. It doesn’t make one any less of a man when you take up fashion designing as a professional career.
Well, here are some of the top fashion designers in the country.
One of the top fashion designers in the country, Evelyne Adongo whose clients include the who’s who in Kenya has made a fortune out of designing. She has even had Kenya’s First Lady, Margaret Kenyatta, don her Creations at an event, and that’s just a tip of her career.
Founder of Kikoromeo and chair of Festival of African Fashion and arts, McCreaath came, saw and conquered the fashion industry.
She is one of the most sought-after fashion designer countrywide and uses prints and patterns to make unique designs for her clients. She is also a peace ambassador and advocate as she champions for peace through an outspoken tagline known as “Fashion for Peace”
Her “Poisa” brand produces a collection of both genders designs but mostly deals with customized orders from clients. They have a collection for runways and catwalks though. One of her most notable masterpieces was her work; The Kenya Airways Millennium uniform design. She has been nominated for countless awards and won dozens other ever since, thanks to that luck opener????
She is one of the pioneers in the fashion industry. Her pieces of art have been showcased in various catwalk shows all around the world. She has bagged many awards and has even started her own fashion school called Mcensal Fashion School. With many fashion designers flooding the market with many fascinating pieces of art, she has managed to remain relevant and at the top for over 25 years now and still counting.

Vaishali’s collections is a fusion of both Indian and African culture. With the bright Indian designs being blended in the rich African culture designs, the outcome is excellent and has overseen her win awards left, right and center both locally and internationally.
One of the oldest designers too who has been around for more than 27years, Deepa Dosaja is one of Kenya’s best fashion designers. Her pieces of art have been arraigned in fashion events and runways both locally and internationally and she as never shyed away from organizing fashion events for upcoming fashion designers to boost their morale. Maybe one of her glorious moments was when Lupita wore an outfit designed by her and the whole world went gaga.
8.Faith ‘Manciny’ Migwi
Faith started out like 5 years ago by designing both male and female outfits but decided to major in male outfits. He brands; Manciny Designs is such a great name in the fashion industry and she produces strictly African outfits.
This former worker at The Kenya Airways made a hobby to be a money minting scheme. She is also not so seasoned in the industry but has exhibited exemplary prowess during the short time she has done her thing. Her label; Vivienne Taa label has showcased in several fashion events around the country and is not bending low anytime soon. She is one fashion designers to watch and beat.
She has not been around for long but has mastered the art and perfected in matters fashion. She is one of the top Kenyan fashion designers who strictly do bridal outfits. She does other outfits other than bridal wear strictly on special occasions and for celebrity wear. Though specializing on one field limits one to a limited audience/clients (because people don’t wed daily????) but she has built a label for herself; WM Label and is still going strong as one of the top bridal wear designers in the country.
