This is a list of towns with high poverty levels in Kenya. The poverty level is a measurement of the number of people that are considered impoverished. Many factors like the level of income, availability of food, shelter and other basic necessities play a major role in determining poverty levels.
According to recent research by the World Bank, many Kenyans spend more on mobile phone services monthly than on fuel and electricity. They spend an average of Ksh 1,501 on mobile phone services which are 20% more than on fuel which is an averagely of Ksh 1,234. The difference in poverty level is not significant between both formal and informal settlements and this clearly implies that poverty is widespread across Kenya.
