This article highlights Metropolitan Hospital maternity charges. The 160-bed capacity health facility is located along Rabai Road in  Buruburu. It is part of Evercare Group that includes The Ladnan Hospital, Nairobi Women’s Hospital and The Avenue Group of Hospitals.

Established in 1995, Metropolitan Hospital is arguably one of the most equipped hospitals in the Eastlands area of Nairobi. The hospital recently opened a state of art maternity wing to ensure that mothers and babies experience the best medical care.

Metropolitan Hospital Maternity Package

1. Antenatal clinic Package 

Cost: Ksh 25,000

Antenatal care is important for protecting the health of women and their unborn children. Metropolitan Hospital encourages mothers to schedule their first visit between 8-12 weeks of pregnancy to fully discuss any health issues and develop a healthcare plan for the duration of their pregnancy.

This package entails:

  • 8 scheduled, comprehensive antenatal clinics
  • Prenatal classes by a midwife
  • Laboratory tests; notably total blood count, VDRL, Blood Grouping, Urinalysis, Hepatitis B, Surface Antigen, Random Blood Sugar, Blood slide for malaria
  • HIV counselling and testing for the pregnant mother
  • 2 obstetric ultrasound scans
  • Iron, folic acid and calcium supplements

2. Delivery Package

Normal delivery can be midwife-assisted or doctor-assisted.

a) Midwife-Assisted Delivery 

Cost: Ksh 40,000

It entails:

  • General ward bed stay for 2 days
  • General nursery care for 2 days
  • Medicine and dressings are inclusive except prostaglandins ( for induction and labour)
  • Delivery conducted by experienced midwives
  • A comprehensive review of the baby by the hospital’s doctor
  • KEPI vaccine regime ( Birth polio and BCG)
  • Free prevention of mother and child ( PMTCT) and counselling
  • Compassionate and expert nursing care

b) Doctor-Assisted Delivery

This package is for mothers who may have complications during delivery or those who prefer the assistance of a doctor.

Cost: Ksh 60,000

It entails:

  • General ward bed stay for 2 days
  • General nursery care for 2 days
  • Medicine and dressings are inclusive except prostaglandins ( for induction and labour)
  • Delivery conducted by experienced gynaecologists
  • A comprehensive review of the baby by the hospital’s doctor
  • KEPI vaccine regime ( Birth polio and BCG)
  • Free prevention of mother and child ( PMTCT) and counselling
  • Compassionate and expert nursing care

c) Caesarian Section (CS) Delivery

This package is for mothers who deliver through the caesarian section.

Cost: Ksh 120,000

It entails:

  • General ward bed stay for 3- 4 days
  • General nursery care for 3 days
  • A comprehensive review of the baby by the hospital’s doctor
  • KEPI vaccine regime ( Birth polio and BCG)
  • Free prevention of mother and child ( PMTCT) and counselling
  • Compassionate and expert nursing care
  • pre-operative routine laboratory tests
  • Maternity operating services and medication
  • Hospital obstetrician, paediatrician, and anaesthetist’s fees
  • 3 ward visits by an obstetrician and the first routine ward visit by a paediatrician.

Important Note

  •  The hospital accepts NHIF for Civil servants and managed schemes job group L-T.
  • They don’t accept NHIF Linda Mama.
