Minimum Entry Requirements For Animal Health Courses In Kenya

This article focuses on the minimum entry requirements for animal health courses in Kenya. The requirements are as per the revised version in December 2019 by the Kenya Veterinary Board.

Minimum Entry Requirements For Animal Health Courses

1. Upgrading Certificate to Animal Health

  • Certificate in Animal Husbandry/ Production, Range Management or Wildlife Health from institutions approved by the Kenya Veterinary Board.

2. Certificate in Animal Health and Production

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary School Education (KCSE) with an average mean grade of C- and minimum of a C- in Biology or Biological Sciences or equivalent as determined by the Kenya Veterinary Board.

OR

  • Minimum of one year certificate with a credit pass in Range Management/Wildlife Health/Dairy Management/Animal Science/Animal Husbandry/Animal Production/Leather Technology/Agriculture or equivalent as determined by the Kenya Veterinary Board.

3. Diploma in Animal Health and Production Requirements 

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with an aggregate of C and a grade of at least C in Biology or Biological Sciences and C- in Chemistry or Physical Science and C- in either Mathematics or Physics or Agriculture.

OR

  • KCE/EACE with a Division II and at least a credit in Biology or Biological Sciences, Chemistry or Physical Sciences and a credit in either Mathematics, Physics or Agriculture.

OR

  • Certificate in Animal Health and Production or Certificate in Animal Health and Range Management from institutions recognised by Kenya Veterinary Board.

OR

  • Credit pass in at least a two year certificate course in Agriculture/Animal Production/Animal Husbandry/Range Management/Wildlife Health/Dairy Technology or equivalent from institutions recognised by Kenya National Qualifications Authority.

OR

  • KACE level certificate with a principal pass in Biology and at least a subsidiary pass in Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics.

OR

  • Diploma in Biomedical discipline recognised by Kenya National Qualification Authority.

OR

  • Any other qualification equivalent to the above from an institution recognised by the Kenya Veterinary Board.

4. Upgrading of Certificate in Animal Health and Production to Diploma

  • Holders of a Certificate in Animal Health and Production/ Animal Health and Range Management from institutions recognised by Kenya Veterinary Board.

5. Bachelor of Science in Animal Health and Production Requirements 

  • A minimum of C+ in KCSE with at least C+ in Biology or Biological Sciences and any one of the following: Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics or Physical Sciences.

OR

  • Two principals and one subsidiary pass at KACE level or equivalent, one of which must be in Biology and in any other science subject.

OR

  • A minimum of C plain in KCSE and at least a Credit Pass Diploma in Animal Health/Agriculture/Medical Laboratory Technology from an institution approved by Kenya Veterinary Board.

OR

  • A minimum of a C- in KCSE with at least a credit pass in both Certificate and Diploma in Animal Health/Agriculture/Medical Laboratory Technology from an institution approved by Kenya Veterinary Board.

OR

  • A degree in a Biological Science from institutions approved by Kenya Veterinary Board.

OR

  • Any other qualifications equivalent to the above from an institution approved by Kenya Veterinary Board.

6. Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine Requirements

  • A minimum of a C+ in KCSE with a C+ in Biology or Biological Sciences and Chemistry, and any one of the following subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Phyical Sciences or Agriculture.

OR

  • Minimum of two principals and one subsidiary pass at KACE level or equivalent, at least a principal in Biology and a subsidiary in Chemistry.

OR

  • A minimum of a C in KCSE with a credit pass in Diploma in Animal Health/Agriculture/Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognised institution.

OR

  • Holders of a degree in a Biological Science from recognised institutions.

OR

  • Any other qualification equivalent to any of the above, subject to approval by the Kenya Veterinary Board.
