Mount Kenya University School Of Medicine Fees Structure

This is a list of courses offered at the Mount Kenya University (MKU) School of Medicine and their fees structure. Mount Kenya University Medical School was accredited by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board in 2014. MKU School of Medicine is located at the university’s main campus in Thika.

It offers the following courses:

MKU School of Medicine Fees Structure

1. Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB)

Admission Requirements

  • For the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) holders, the minimum university admission requirement is C+ (plus) and in addition, B (plain) in each of the following cluster subjects; Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics, English or Kiswahili.
  • For Kenya advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) holders, a minimum of two principal passes in Biology, Chemistry and subsidiary pass in either Mathematics or Physics.
  • For diploma holders in Medical Sciences, a minimum ‘O’ level Division II pass in KCE or C+ mean grade and a credit C+ in cluster subjects in KCSE, in addition to a three-year diploma with a minimum of a credit pass from a medical training institution recognized by the Board.
  • For holders of any degree in Biological Sciences or equivalent qualifications from a recognized university subject to passing Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
  • Proficiency in the English language

Course Duration

The duration of the course shall not be less than six academic years and not more than twelve years.

Ksh 150,000 per term/trimester (Ksh. 450,000 per academic year)

Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences

1. Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences (DMLS)

Admission Requirements

  • KCSE mean grade C (plain) & C (plain) in English/Kiswahili, mathematics/physics, Biology & Chemistry
  • Or One must be registered by the KMLTTB board as a certificate holder and must have practised for at least two years after being registered as a certificate holder.

Course Duration : 3 academic years

Ksh.34,550 per trimester

2. Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences (BSc.MLS)

Admission Requirements

  • KCSE mean grade of C+ (plus) and C+ (plus) in Mathematics Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and English/Kiswahili

Or upgrading: One must be registered by the KMLTTB board as a Diploma holder and must have Practiced for at least two years after being registered as a Diploma holder.

Fees

8 semesters for direct entry at Ksh.75,550 per semester 5 semesters Diploma holders Ksh.60,000 per semester Weekend Nairobi Campus.

3. Master of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences

Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field with at least Second Class Honours Upper Division
  • Or Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences recognized by the Senate of Mount Kenya University.

4. PhD in Medical Laboratory Sciences

Admission Requirements

Master’s degree in the area of specialization Or Master’s Degree in Medical Biomedical Sciences

Department of Dental Sciences

1. Bachelor of Science in Dental Technology

Admission Requirements

DIRECT ENTRY:  KCSE C+ (plus) and C+ (plus) in Mathematics/ Physics/ Physical Sciences, Chemistry or Biology and English or Kiswahili.

(UPGRADING) MATURE ENTRY:  Diploma in Dental Technology from an Institution recognized by Mount Kenya University Senate.  * Have undergone 1year mandatory internship and at least 1-year working experience.

*Foreign students must be cleared by their professional body and Kenya Dental Technologist Association.

5 semesters for Diploma Holders

2. Bachelor of Science in Oral Health

Admission Requirements

DIRECT ENTRY:  KCSE C+ (plus) and C+ (plus) in Mathematics/Physics/ Physical Sciences, Chemistry or Biology and English or Kiswahili.

(UPGRADING) MATURE ENTRY:  Diploma in Dental Technology from an Institution recognized by Mount Kenya University Senate.  * Have undergone 1year mandatory internship and at least 1-year working experience.

5 semesters for Diploma Holders

3. Diploma in Community Oral Health (Dental Therapy)

Admission Requirements

KCSE mean grade C (plain) and C (plain) in English, Biology/Biological Sciences and C-(minus) in any two of the following subjects: Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Physical Sciences, Agriculture and General Science.

4. Diploma in Dental Technology

Admission Requirements

KCSE mean grade of C (plain) and C (plain) in English/Kiswahili, Chemistry/Biology and C-(minus) in either Mathematics/ Physics/Physical Sciences.
