Mount Kenya University School of Public Health Fees Structure

This is the fees structure of the courses offered at the Mount Kenya University School of Public Health. The MKU School of Public Health has five departments namely; Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Department of Community Health, Department of Health Management and Informatics, Department of Epidemiology and Bio-Statistics, and the Department of Environmental Health.

a) Department of Nutrition and Dietetics

1. Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics

Admission Requirements

KCSE C (Plus) and C (Plain) in Biology, Chemistry, English / Kiswahili and Physics / Mathematics/ Geography Or Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics or Food Science and Nutrition from an institution or examining body recognized by the Mount Kenya University Senate and Kenya Nutrition and Dieticians Institute

Fees

Direct Entry:  8 semesters Ksh 57,550 per semester

Diploma entry:  6 semesters Ksh 54,550 per semester

2. Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics

Admission Requirements

KCSE Certificate with a minimum of grade C- (Minus)plus D+(Plus) in English, Biology / Biological Sciences, Chemistry/ Physical sciences and D+ (Plus) in Physics/ Mathematics Or Holder of certificate in Nutrition and Dietetics or Food Science and Nutrition from an institution or examination body recognized by the university senate and The Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute.

3 Academic years Ksh.34,550 per trimester

3. Certificate in Nutrition and Dietetics

Admission Requirements

KCSE certificate with a minimum of grade D(plain) and D(plain) in the following mandatory subjects; English, Biology/Biological Sciences and Chemistry/Physical Sciences and D(plain) in Physics/Mathematics

2 Academic years Ksh. 29,550 per trimester

4. Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics (Clinical Nutrition and Community Nutrition)

Admission Requirements

Holder of Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics with a minimum of Second class honors upper division or Second Class Lower Division with a minimum of two years’ work experience.

2 Academic Years, 4 semesters:  Ksh 70,000 per Semester

5. Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Processing

Admission Requirements

KCSE certificate with a minimum of C+ (plus) and C+ (plus) in each of the following subjects: Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics/Physics or C+ (plus) in Biological Sciences/ Physical Sciences and Geography or any other of the group IV subjects in K.C.S.E or its equivalent.

Diploma in Food Science and Processing Technology from Mount Kenya University or from any other Institutions recognized by the Mount Kenya University Senate. Other Diploma holders in related fields, from accredited Diploma Institutions

6. Diploma in Food Science & Processing Technology

Admission Requirements

KCSE mean grade of C (plain) with C-(minus) in Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics/Physics, Biological Sciences/Physical Sciences Or Relevant Certificate.

b) Department of Community Health

1. Bachelor of Science in Community Health

Admission Requirements

KCSE mean grade C+ and C in the following subject cluster either English/Kiswahili; Mathematics or Physics, Chemistry, Biology Or Holders of health-related Diploma recognized by the University Senate

8 semesters:  Ksh.57,550 per Semester

2. Bachelor of Science in Health Education, and Promotion

Admission Requirements

KCSE mean grade C+ and C in the following subject cluster either English/Kiswahili; Mathematics or Physics, Chemistry, Biology Or Holders of health-related Diploma recognized by the University Senate

3. Diploma in Community Health and Development

Admission Requirements

KCSE mean grade C (plain)Or Equivalent qualification recognized by the University Senate plus C-(minus) in English/Kiswahili and one of the following: Mathematics/ Physics, Biology/ Chemistry/Physical science/Biological Science.

4. Certificate in Community Health and Development

Admission Requirements

KCSE mean grade D+ (Plus) with at least D (plain) in English/Kiswahili, Mathematics/ Physics, Biology/ Chemistry/Physical Science/Biological Science

1½ academic years: Ksh.24,550 per trimester

5. Master of Science in Community Health( weekends and Digital)

Admission Requirements

Bachelor’s degree with Second Class Honours, Upper Division Or Second Class Honours with Lower Division with at least 2 years relevant work experience.

6. Master of Science in Health Education, Promotion and Development

Admission Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree with Second Class Honours, Upper Division Or Second Class Honours with lower division and at least 2years of relevant work experience.

4 semesters Ksh. 79,550 Per Semester, Ksh. 55,000 (Digital)

c) Department of Health Management and Informatics

1. Bachelor of Science in Health System Management

Admission Requirements

KCSE mean grade C+ and C+ in English/ Kiswahili; C (Plain) in Mathematics or Physics, Chemistry, Biology Or Holders of health-related Diploma recognized by the University Senate

8 semesters Ksh. 57,550/- Per Semester, Ksh. 48,000(Digital)

2. Master of Science in Health System Management

Admission Requirements

Bachelor’s degree with Second Class Honours, Upper Division Or Second Class Honours Lower Division with at least 2 years relevant work experience

Fees

4 semesters Ksh. 79,550/- Per Semester, Ksh. 65,000(Digital) per semester, Evening Kshs 79,550 per semester

d) Department of Environmental Health

1. Bachelor of Science in Public Health

Admission Requirements

KCSE mean grade of C+ (plus) and C+ (plus) in Mathematics/Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Biological Sciences, Kiswahili/English Or A Diploma in a relevant area with at least C (plain) in KCSE

8 semesters: Ksh.62,550 per semester

2. Master of Public Health Nutrition

A holder of Bachelor’s degree with Second Class Honours, Upper Division, or Second Class Lower Division with at least 2 years of relevant work experience in the following relevant areas: Environmental Health, Laboratory Technology, Biomedical Sciences, Public Health, Community Health, Nutrition and Dietetics, Medicine and other biological science-related courses recognized by the University Senate

3. Master of Science in Food Hygiene and Safety

Admission Requirements

A holder of at least a relevant Bachelor’s degree with Second Class Honours Upper Division, or Second Class Lower Division with at least 2 years of relevant work experience in the following relevant areas: Environmental Health, Laboratory Technology, Biomedical Sciences, Public Health, Community Health, Nutrition and Dietetics, Medicine and other biological science-related courses recognized by the University Senate

e) Department of Epidemiology and Bio-Statistics

1. Master of Public Health (MPH)

Admission Requirements

A holder of a relevant Bachelor’s degree with Second Class Honors, (Upper Division) in the following Areas: Environment Health, Environmental Studies, Water and Civil Engineering, Pharmacy, Nursing, Clinical Medicine, Biomedical Laboratory Technology, Biological Science- related Courses recognized by the University Senate or Second Class Lower Division with two years of Work Experience.

2. Master of Public Health in Reproductive Health

Admission Requirements

A holder of a relevant Bachelor’s degree with Second Class Honours, (Upper Division) in the following areas: Environmental Health, Environmental Studies, Water and Civil Engineering, Pharmacy, Nursing, Clinical Medicine, Biomedical Laboratory Technology, Biomedical Sciences, Public Health, Nutrition and other Biological Science-related courses recognized by the University Senate.
