If you fail to pay your monthly NHIF payments or pay late you accrue a penalty of Ksh 250/= per month, which must be paid at any of these branches; Kenya Commercial Bank, Equity Bank, National Bank and, Cooperative Bank. Please note that the penalties have to be paid at the bank branches and not the agents.)
In addition, you will also pay the premiums, which are Khs 500 every month missed. The premiums can be paid via Mpesa.
How To Pay NHIF Penalty Through Mpesa
1. Go to Mpesa and click ”Lipa na Mpesa”
2. Enter 222222 as the NHIF business number
3. Enter the Account number in this format: NHIFP-ID Number
Example: NHIFP-098765439876.
4. Enter Ksh 250 for every month you have defaulted.
5. Enter your Mpesa PIN
6. You will receive a confirmation message for the payment.
