This article focuses on Port Sacco membership eligibility and requirements. Port Sacco is a tier 1 licensed deposit-taking Sacco regulated by the Sacco Society Regulatory Authority (SASRA).
The Sacco was started in 1966 by employees of the then East African Harbours and Railways Corporation. It opened its common bond in 2010 and now has diverse membership from various sectors.
It is one of the largest deposit-taking Saccos in Kenya with an asset base of 8.14 billion.
Port Sacco Membership Eligibility
Membership is open to the following;
- Institutions/ companies/ organisations.
- Individuals.
- Business persons.
- Salaried persons.
- Co-operative societies.
- Youths, self-help, welfare and investment groups.
Port Sacco Membership Requirements
1. Individual Membership
- Complete and submit the individual membership application form which can be downloaded from the Sacco’s website.
- Attach a copy of your Kenyan National ID or a valid Kenyan passport.
- Attach coloured passport size photographs.
- Attach a copy of your KRA PIN certificate.
- Registration fees is Kshs 500.
- Minimum monthly deposit of Kshs 1,000.
- Share capital of Kshs 40,000.
2. Joint Membership
- Complete and submit the joint membership application form.
- Attach copies of Kenyan National ID or valid Kenyan passport for all applicants.
- Attach coloured passport size photographs for all applicants.
- Attach copies of KRA PIN certificate for all applicants.
- Registration fee is Kshs 500.
- Minimum monthly deposit is Kshs 1,000.
- Share capital is Kshs 40,000.
3. Group Membership
This includes chamas, self-help groups etc.
- Complete and submit the joint membership application form.
- Attach copies of Kenyan National ID or valid Kenyan passports for all applicants.
- Attach coloured passport size photographs for all applicants.
- Attach a copy of the group’s registration certificate.
- Attach copies of KRA PIN certificate for all officials.
- Registration fee is Kshs 500.
- Minimum monthly deposit is Kshs 5,000.
- Share capital is Kshs 40,000.
4. Corporate/ Company Membership
- Complete and submit the company membership application form.
- Attach a certified copy of registration certificate.
- General meeting/ board resolution authorising account opening at Mombasa Port Sacco.
- Attach the memorandum and article of association for the company.
- Attach coloured passport size photographs of authorised signatories and copies of their ID or passport.
- Attach signature specimens of the signatories.
- Attach copies of the KRA PIN certificate of the directors.
- Attach a copy of the company’s KRA PIN certificate.
- Registration fee is Kshs 500.
- Minimum monthly deposit is Kshs 5,000.
- Share capital is Kshs 40,000.
