Requirements For Import, Export and Wholesale Of LPG in Kenya

These are the requirements one must meet in order to be allowed to import, export or do wholesale of liquefied petroleum gas ( LPG) in Kenya. The licensing is done through the Petroleum Licensing Committee of the Energy Regulatory Commission ( ERC)  in accordance to the requirements of the Energy Act 2006 and applications for licences are evaluated within 30 days from the date of receipt applications.

Requirements and documents for Import, Export and Wholesale Of bulk LPG in Kenya

1. Scanned original copy of the certificate of incorporation/business registration certificate

2. Scanned original copy of CR 12 from the registrar of companies (not older than three months) for Limited Companies

3. Scanned original copies of Identification documents (IDs or Passports) for all the directors

4. Scanned original copy of a valid lease agreement for the premises from which your business will operate

5. Scanned original copy of valid tax compliance certificate from KRA

6. Scanned original copy of PIN/VAT Certificate.

7. Scanned original copy of Work permit/Entry Permit Class “H” for foreign directors

8. Valid hospitality with a licensed LPG Storage facility at Mombasa.

Requirements For Transport of LPG In Kenya 

1.Scanned original copy of CR 12 from the registrar of companies (not older than three months) for Limited Companies

2. Scanned original copy of valid tax compliance certificate from KRA

3. A valid certificate of calibration for the LPG tank mounted on each vehicle

4.Fire certificate from the Chief Fire Officer

5. A valid report on the examination for LPG tank mounted on each vehicle

6. A valid Motor Vehicle Inspection Certificate for each prime mover and trailer

7. Logbooks for each  prime mover and trailer

8. Valid Medical Surveillance Certificate for drivers from designated health practitioners as per Occupational Health and Safety Act

9. A valid driving license for each driver

Requirements for storage and filling of LPG in bulk 

1. Scanned original copy of the certificate of incorporation/business registration certificate

2. Scanned original copy of CR 12 from the registrar of companies (not older than three months) for Limited Companies

3. Scanned original copies of Identification documents (IDs or Passports) for all the directors

4. Scanned original copy of Single Business Permit from Respective County Government

5. Scanned original copy of valid tax compliance certificate from KRA

6. Scanned original copy of PIN/VAT Certificate.

7. Scanned original copy of Work permit/Entry Permit Class “H” for foreign directors

8. Proof of ownership of the LPG filling facility

9. Construction Permit from Energy Regulatory Commission

10. Environmental Impact Assessment License from NEMA

11. Certificate of compliance with the Physical Planning Act of 1999

12. Fire certificate from the Chief Fire Officer

13. A valid copy of the certificate of registration of the workplace from DOSHS

14. Proof of ownership of at least 5,000 cylinders of either 1,3,6 or 13kg/Written authority for filling from the LPG cylinder brand owners

15. A valid copy of weighing scale calibration certificate from Weights and Measures Department

16. Supply agreement/letter of intent from a licensed LPG importer

17. Proof of compliance with the Kenya Standard (KEBS letter)

18. A Valid report on the examination for LPG tanks

19. A valid certificate of calibration for the LPG tanks

Requirements for sale of LPG in Cylinders 

1. Scanned original copy of the certificate of incorporation/business registration certificate

2. Scanned original copy of CR 12 from the registrar of companies (not older than three months) for Limited Companies

3. Scanned original copies of Identification documents (IDs or Passports) for all the directors

4. Scanned original copy of Single Business Permit from Respective County Government

5. Scanned original copy of valid tax compliance certificate from KRA

6. Scanned original copy of PIN/VAT Certificate.

7. Scanned original copy of Work permit/Entry Permit Class “H” for foreign directors

8. Scanned copy of distributorship agreement from LPG Cylinder brand owner

9. Weighing scale calibration certificate from Weights and Measures department
