Hundreds of East African songs come out every month, and if you blink while looking at Youtube, Mdundo, Apple Music, Spotify, SoundCloud, Twitter, or wherever else you hear about new music, you are bound to miss something.
This list will be updated weekly with all of the top songs of the moment, the ones that have already staged takeovers and the others that have next. Most of the songs added on here will be those released within the last month or two. But sometimes a song takes a while to percolate before it pops off, which is why we will occasionally break our own rule. So here we go!
1. Gravitti Band and Nameless – Sweetie
This is a feel good jam that has brought together Kenya’s finest reggae band Gravitti and the Legend himself Nameless. Its a remake of “Sweetie Come Brush Me” by John Holt.
2. Diamond Platnumz – I miss you
This a brand new love song from the Bongo superstar which talks about on how he is trying to get back to his lover who left him for a richer man.
3 . Willy Paul – Pili Pili
This a brand new tune from the multi-hitmaker himself which talks about a beautiful lady that always complains about how she is not treated well by her spouse. She always puts her needs first, at the expense of her family.
4. Nyashinski – Malaika
This jam has been topping charts since its release. This is a smooth sailing piece and has that nice RnB feel unlike his previous songs that usually mix the RnB, Kapuka and rap mix.
5. Zikki ft Timmy T-dat – Adhiambo
This another big collaboration of two talented acts in the Kenyan Music industry. You should add it on your playlist.
5. Ray C – Unanimaliza
Straight from rehabilitation and Ray C drops another hypnotizing love song with a nice background and a perfect video. Ray C’s melodious voice never seems to age and she has taken back her throne as the queen of Bongo.
7. Mbozi Za Malwa – Bebe Cool x Sauti Sol
This is a catchy tune from the biggest boy band in Africa and one of the finest artists in Uganda.
8. TBT – OCTOPIZZO
This is a sizzling hot Single from Kenya’s Number one Hip-Hop star Octopizzo that has been a banger in the country for weeks since its release.
9. Nameless – INSPIRE
This is the latest single from the Legend himself which is a blend of afro-pop and dancehall.
10. Cheza Chini – Eko Dydda
After making a comeback with Vidole, the 2017 Grove awards male artist of the year is back on the airwaves with a brand new hit dubbed Cheza vile.
11. Bahati X Eddy Kenzo – Barua Kwa Mama
Written by Bahati, an award winning musician from Kenya and the East African BET Award winner EDDY KENZO from Ugandam , Barua Kwa Mama is a song which shows love for our mothers.
12.Black Sultan feat Khaligraph Jones – PodApek
Black Sultan,a Kisumu based musician has collaborated with one Khaligraph Jones in the new music titled ‘Pod Apek Remix’. The song is well done from the instrumentals to good vocals. Their lyrical prowess is unmatched despite the fact that it has a Luo title. This is now called music made in Kisumu.
13. Prezzo ft. Chess – VUMILIA
This is an inspiration song aimed at encouraging at those feeling like they have reached the end of their life. This a second collaboration from the two after doing Celebration of Life some years back.
