You are not guaranteed to see an elephant when you go to a park which has elephants. They may be deep in the wilderness grazing when you want to see them. So this means that sometimes if you badly wanted to see them, you might be disappointed sometimes as it is not a surety even with the help of a guide.
But here is a list of some of the places you can go for the perfect chance to view elephants.
1. Maasai Mara National Reserve
This is the elephants’ background and you possibly can’t miss spotting one when you are driving through the reserve. Every time you visit Maasai Mara National Reserve, despite the season, you must see them, unlike other animals which migrate to Serengeti and are very rare to spot.
2. Tsavo National Park
With over 9,000 ‘red’ elephants, this is one place you cant miss sighting an elephant. A short drive into the park and you will see a herd of elephants grazing gracefully or just taking a stroll.
3. David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust
David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is an elephant orphanage which is a perfect place for elephant sighting because they return back for the night at around 4:00 PM-5:30 PM. If you ‘adopt’ one, then you can come and see it and many others every day in the evening.
4. Amboseli National Park
Amboseli National Park teems with wildlife and amazing views of Mt. Kilimanjaro, which is just across the border in Tanzania. Most importantly it is abundant in elephants as they can be often sighted in herds on the open plains or as they bathe in waterholes.
5. Samburu National Park
This is the place where you can comfortably drive behind or beside a herd of elephants because they have gotten used to vehicles. This means you can experience a once in a lifetime a close-up encounter with the elephants. It is also a safe haven for them as the headquarters for Save The Elephants are found here.
