This is how to apply for a Junior Secondary School (JSS) internship in Kenya as of 2025. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has officially opened applications for qualified candidates to fill 24,000 teacher internship positions in Junior  Secondary Schools. This initiative aims to support the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum.

The Teacher Internship Programme is a one-year initiative designed to equip and sustain the competencies of individuals entering the teaching service. It targets unemployed registered teachers who will be assigned to schools, where their teaching experience will be enhanced through mentorship, coaching, and practical exposure.

Duration of the internship 

  • The internship period will last for twelve months.

JSS Intern Salary per Month

Interns assigned to Junior Schools will be eligible for a monthly stipend of KSh 20,000. This stipend will be paid subject to applicable statutory deductions.

JSS Internship Recruitment Requirements 2025

To qualify for recruitment, a candidate should meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Be a Kenyan citizen
  • Must be a holder of at least a diploma in education with a minimum mean Grade of C+ (plus) and C+ (plus) in two teaching Subjects in KCSE or its equivalent
  • Must be a registered teacher with the Teachers Service Commission

How to Apply for Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) Internship 2025

Interested and qualified candidates should submit their applications online through the Commission’s website, www.tsc.go.ke, under “Careers,” or via teachersonline.tsc.go.ke, no later than midnight on September 9, 2025.

During verification, applicants shall be required to produce the following:

  • A copy of the Teacher Registration Certificate/print-out from the TSC online portal as evidence of registration as a teacher;

  • A copy of the National Council for Persons with Disability (NCPWD) card (where applicable);

  • A copy of the National Identity Card (ID) or Passport;

  • Two (2) colour passport-size photographs;

  • A copy of the Kenya Revenue Authority Personal Identification Number (KRA PIN).

Note:

  • The recruitment exercise is free of charge.
  • Manual applications will not be considered.
  • Applicants must be unemployed and have no record of exiting the teaching service with TSC due to disciplinary grounds.
  • Candidates will be required to present original academic and professional certificates.
  • Must have a Personal Accident Insurance cover for personal risks during the internship period.
  • The selection of Candidates will strictly be on merit and based on the number of vacancies per County.
  • Successful candidates must not accept more than one offer of internship.
  • Successful candidates will be posted to serve at any junior school in the sub-county where they were interviewed or in any part of the County where the vacancy exists.
  • Successful candidates shall be required to teach various learning areas under the Junior School Curriculum.
